This class is flexibly staffed with GIS Technician III and incumbents can advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating the required proficiency at the III level OR once assigned ongoing lead responsibilities. Assignments at this level are subject to technical review and are of varying difficulty. GIS Technician II is the journey level class in this series and incumbents at this level are expected to perform skilled GIS and research work in the preparation, maintenance and amendment of a variety of maps and/or engineering drawings. This class is flexibly staffed with GIS Technician II and incumbents are expected to advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating the required proficiency. ![]() More complex duties are assigned as proficiency is gained at this level. Under close supervision employees perform the more routine, less difficult types of GIS assignments. GIS Technician I is the entry level class in the GIS technician series. Attention is given to minimizing infiltration and inflow, and to minimizing the frequency and impact of sanitary sewer overflows.Under general supervision, is responsible for the day-to-day technical support of the County's Geographic Information Systems (GIS) application and database development projects or a department GIS/mapping function in property assessment, engineering and/or planning perform technical and administrative tasks necessary to maintain and evaluate the GIS system perform data analysis and presents geographic based data in map form and other related duties as assigned. The Sewer System Management Plan, adopted in August 2009, provides guidelines for the management, operation, and maintenance of wastewater collection systems in order to provide reliable service. Sewer Service Charges are prescribed for each residential unit or residential unit equivalent per connection to each district's sanitary sewerage system, per year or portion thereof. The County Sewer/Sanitation Districts pay the plant or city that treats the sewage. Sewage flows from the collection systems in County districts to sewage treatment plants operated by the South Bayside System Authority, or the cities of Burlingame or San Mateo. The County does not operate sewage treatment facilities. Section 4.24 of the Ordinance Code governs sewer mains and laterals. Ownership and maintenance of sewer laterals - the sewer line that connects the plumbing of a house or business to the sewer main - are the property owner's responsibility. Public Works personnel maintain the sewer mains in a street or easement and related facilities that comprise the collection system. Sewer Service Charge rates for the ten County Sewer Maintenance and Sanitation Districts are set by the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors and are described in Section 4.32.020 of the Ordinance Code. The Sewer Service Charge is collected annually on the property tax bill.
